This will prove to be a once in a lifetime experience, with such talent and knowledge at one place in one weekend!

We will be sending out a newsletter on a regular basis with news about the clinics, some background information about the people who are giving them and other important news of the DHE event.

This week special attention is given to Albert Voorn.

Latest News
On 20 March 2011 Albert received the Ton Hendrix Memorial trophy, also known as the Fairness Prize. This trophy honours the person who is the most fair towards horses, their general treatment of horses and people alike.

Albert has started competing again recently as Eurocommerce, an important Dutch sponsor in respect to Show jumping, has asked Albert to ride Lexington (Adiama x Dageraad - there he is again!) the pair are preparing for selection for the Dutch National Show Jumping Team. Dageraad Stud will follow this with great enthusiasm.

Albert Voorn

Date of birth: 23 May 1956
Discipline: Show jumping
Best Horse so far : Lando
Best performance: Reserve champion Olympic games 2000 (Sidney)

Albert started horse riding when he was 8 years old. After finishing school his sport career commenced as a rider for Tom Olsmeyer in Doorwerth, the Netherlands.
Well known horse people like Francois Mathy, Paul Schockenmoehle, Henk Nooren and Cees van Opstal sr. made use of the riding capabilities of Albert.

During his riding career Albert did three phase eventing and even some horseracing but show jumping remained his first love as he promised his son Vincent that they would ride together for the Dutch Show jumping team.

Over the years Albert’s approach to horses changed significantly. He was known as the Butcher, but Franke Sloothaak persuaded him and trained him to ride as lightly as possible.
Ian Millar taught Albert that a horse performs best if you let it jump the way it does naturally. Albert says, " The older I get the more I contemplate the question why riding seems to be so difficult. Nowadays I let the horse jump the way he wants to, the only thing I do is control the speed or direction - faster, slower, to the right or to the left”.

Albert has a clear view in respect to horses and horse riding, " If I was a horse and a rider got on my back, I would lie down at once. As riders we owe our success to the capabilities and acceptance of the horse we are riding. The more noble he is the less he accepts of the rider. Thoroughbreds are seen as difficult to ride, I disagree, Thoroughbreds have strong feelings about justice, they accept less"

Albert does not understand riders who think they know everything and do not want to learn from other riders: “ Their biggest problem is their pride, if someone explains another method to me that works better, I will try it, I am grateful if someone tells me that I am not doing it well enough and that there is an easier or better way”.

In 2000 Albert became Dutch Show jumping champion and reserve champion at the Olympics in Sidney on Lando - according to many people the most difficult horse in the arena at that time. In February 2002 Mr. Porte du Theil of the Cadre Noir in France awarded Albert with the qualification of Honour Rider because of his way of training horses and instructing riders. Albert is eager to share his knowledge therefore gives riding lessons and demonstrations throughout the world.

DAGERAAD HORSE EVENT

Date 31-05-2011

DAGERAAD HORSE EVENT 23 – 25 SEPTEMBER 2011

      AT GLENELLEN FARM HOUTBAY

Adelinde Cornelissen, number one Ranking World Cup Winner and Olympic showjumper Albert Voorn including lunging specialist Lammert Haanstra & Pieteke de Reus will hold 6 clinics per day over a three day period in Cape Town.

This will prove to be a once in a lifetime experience, with such talent and knowledge at one place in one weekend!

We will be sending out a newsletter on a regular basis with news about the clinics, some background information about the people who are giving them and other important news of the DHE event.

This week special attention is given to Adelinde Cornelissen, as she introduces herself to you :

“My name is Adelinde Cornelissen and I live in the Netherlands. I have been riding since the age of six and rode ponies up until the age of eighteen. My parents bred ponies and I backed and trained them myself. The first one being Ayesha, a small pony of only 1.36m and became Dutch Champion twice in the Z2 dressage on her. I later rode her son, Whitsun, and his half brother Mr Pride and won several titles on them and later became Dutch Champion on both of them!

In the meantime I got my first horse  Innovation on whom I not only competed to Z2 dressage but I also showjumped up to 1.30m plus I evented him. Nowadays Innovation is stabled at Stal Mansour where he gets even more variation, they ride on him while playing the drums, trumpet and so on, he has also acted in a couple of films and series and takes part in several festivities, such as “Sinterklaas”… A wonderful life I’d say!!

Besides Innovation I rode several other horses up to Z2 dressage and then I got Parzival, now Jerich Parzival, he is a Jazz offspring. In 2004 we became Dutch Champion in Z2 dressage and then moved on in 2004 to outdoor: Reserve Champion ZZ-Licht, 2005 Reserve Champion ZZ-Zwaar, 2006 4th Small Tour, 2007 Dutch Champion Grand Prix. During my First international show in Falsterbo we ended up second after national favorite Jan Brink and Briar. In 2008 we became Reserve Champion in Aachen and reserve during the Hong Kong Olympics and won three World Cup qualifiers in a row!! During the WC final in 2009, Las Vegas, Parzival got injured  but we were back in August for the European Championships and won team gold and Gold in Special and Silver in Freestyle!!  In the World Cup qualifiers and the final in Hertogenbosch we ended up second behind Edward Gal and Totilas. I was very sad at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky as Parzival bit his tongue and we were not allowed to compete anymore…  But the revenge came in the World cup qualifiers: 5 out of 5! He won everything this season! Now the end of April the final in Leipzig
